10/25/2023

From October 19 to 21, the XI International Sports Forum “Russia – a Sports Power” was held in Perm. The forum was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the state governing body in the field of physical culture and sports. It set a record for the number of participants and countries. More than 5,000 people from Russia and 30 foreign countries took part in the business program.

At the plenary session “Sport without borders. Openness to the world” was delivered by Russian President Vladimir Putin. In his welcoming speech to the participants, he noted the humanistic mission of sport — “to strengthen the friendship of peoples, to educate new generations of harmonious, responsible and strong-willed people.” During his speech, he paid special attention to the development of mass sports.

“Our goal is to involve 70 percent of Russian citizens in systematic sports by 2030, that is, to make sports a norm of life for 93 million people, of all ages and health groups. We will create all the conditions for this, combine the possibilities of education, medicine, culture, and will ensure the widest possible availability of sports infrastructure,” said the President of the country.

The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin at the plenary session noted the tools for the effective development of the sports movement and shared his thoughts on the importance of sport in the formation of a healthy society and one of the factors of national security:

“We live in an era of global events. This is the time to overcome the politicization of sports, the time to choose the path for further development of the national sports system, taking into account experience and history. Our key tasks remain unchanged — these are mass sports and elite sports, the development of sports medicine, training of personnel in the field of physical culture and sports, as well as international cooperation in a multipolar world.”

The forum was held on the eve of the announcement by the Russian Ministry of Sports of the nominees for the traditional National Sports Award, which will take place at the State Kremlin Palace on November 30 and will become one of the key events of the celebration

100th anniversary of the formation of the state governing body in the field of physical culture and sports.

“2024 was declared by the President as the year of sports in Russia. Our country has something to be proud of: every day thousands of athletes and coaches work to ensure that as many people as possible are involved in mass sports. Together we must do everything to make sport a norm of life, so that it is accessible to everyone in any region of our country.

And the National Sports Award is a unique opportunity to recognize the contribution of those who carry out such work,” the head of the department emphasized.

At the forum, as part of a round table dedicated to the accessibility of sports to all categories of the population, participants spoke about the importance of building a feedback system with the regions of the country to effectively resolve the issue of involving citizens in sports through communication tools. They also noted the importance of the National Sports Award.

It is also worth noting that among the guests and speakers of the forum “Russia – a sports power” were laureates of the National Sports Award of previous years: three-time Olympic champion, president of the skiing association, president of the Russian Ski Racing Federation Elena Vyalbe (winner in the category “Pride of Russia: coach of the year»); head coach of the Russian national rhythmic gymnastics team, president of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics Irina Viner (winner in the nomination “Pride of Russia: Coach of the Year”); four-time Olympic champion, President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov (winner in the nomination “Sports Solidarity: for strengthening international sports relations”), Deputy General Producer of the Match TV channel Vasily Konov (winner in the nomination “Sports Parnassus”: for his contribution to the promotion of physical culture, sports and healthy lifestyle) and others.
